Matukad is one of the smaller islands off the coast of the Caramoan peninsula. Like many islands in the area, its beaches and surrounding waters are freckled with towering limestone cliffs. But they are not even its biggest selling point. What many visitors love about Matukad Island is its fine, fine sand that can definitely give Boracay a run for its tourist money.
Matukad Lagoon, a small lake surrounded by a intriguing mythical tale. There’s a “giant milkfish” swimming around the water, and it is said to have just appeared magically in the lagoon. Legend has it that years ago there used to be two of them here, but a family caught one for dinner. The entire family died because of it. No one touched the fish since. Tourists can see the lagoon and the fish (if you’re lucky) by climbing the sharp cliffs.
