Karagöl , Borçka , Artvin , Turkey



Karagöl is located in the northwestern part of Kaçkar Mountains
(3415), which are in a sense the continuity of Northern Anatolian Mountains. It is
within Borçka town of Artvin and 25 km away from the town center. The lake,
formed by a landslide, has an altitude of 1450–1480 meters. The area of Karagöl,
formed bye one large and one small lake, is about 50.000 m2 and the deepest part
is 25 meters. 
     The lake contains fresh water connected to the outer drainage.
Karagöl and its surroundings way declared a Natural Park (368 ha) on August 14,
2002 because of the geological, geomorphological, flora and fauna richness and
natural characteristics. The area has an important potantiality for tourism
activities, mainly eco-tourism.
